What is solution focused therapy?

Solution-focused therapy (SFT) is a type of brief therapy that focuses on identifying and building on clients' strengths and resources, rather than dwelling on problems and deficits. SFT is grounded in the belief that individuals have the capacity to solve their own problems, and that the therapist's role is to help the client identify and utilize their own strengths and resources to find solutions.

SFT is a future-oriented approach that emphasizes goal-setting and the development of a clear vision of a preferred future. The therapist encourages the client to imagine what their life would be like if their problems were resolved and to identify the steps they can take to move closer to that vision. The therapist then helps the client develop a plan for achieving their goals and offers support and encouragement throughout the process.

SFT is often used in a wide range of settings, including individual and family therapy, as well as in schools, businesses, and other organizations. It has been found to be effective in treating a variety of problems, including anxiety, depression, relationship issues, and substance abuse.
